Labels and Tags: The Day Job!

It’s official!!!

I am now a permanent employee at NexGen Packaging… labels and tags… we design and produce them all!

I feel honored to join such a great company.  The people are just fantastic; extremely sweet and helpful.  I guess that my official title is Product Development Assistant.  Even though the majority of my role is to be the in-house Graphic Designer and “Guardian of the Artwork” everyone in the office carries the same title.  An amazing system that makes everyone feel as an equal component.

Although this is a huge shift, as I am entering a field of design I don’t quite understand yet, this is my first step into the design industry as a salaried employee and I’m just thrilled.  I couldn’t be any happier with where I am in terms of work and can honestly say that all the skills I learned at CCA are just kicking in.  Compared to how dense the deadlines were, the real world seems a lot easier than school.

On a day to day, I do a lot of layout and template work, lots of illustrator and vector based work, this job is going to be a great way to keep my illustrator skills sharp and the concepts flowing.  My goals now are to focus on getting more commissions and expanding my portfolio.  The possibilities are endless as far as what kind of work I take as a freelancer.

Feathery hair-dos!

I am starting on a series of ladies portraiture that is based around textures and hair-dos!

Life…

Things are going really well in the past couple of days…

Last month was… hectic (to say the least)… but thanks to the support of my amazing boyfriend, friends and family, I finally feel like my head is clear and I know what direction I am taking.  I have landed what in many ways is my dream job and I finally feel free to get a lot of personal work done.   I am very much looking forward to what the near future has to offer and feel extremely grateful to those who have extended welcoming arms to me.

 

Jack-a-lope!!!

I am currently working on an illustration of a Jackalope, these are just process updates.  I am really trying to work on the speed of each of my pieces.

I still have a few hours left to go on this + some enhancements on Illustrator, but I am pretty excited about how it’s coming together.

New Business Cards.

Recently I had run out of business cards.  I decided to try out an online printing service through VistaPrint.  I designed these to have a full color front and a black and white  backside.  After a few days of waiting, the cards finally arrived via snail mail… and I have to say, I’m pretty excited about how these turned out.

A slow start into blogging but here it is.

I am dedicating this space to sketchbook work and work in progress, essentially, the unfinished work that will never make it into my website.
